Clash of Kings - The West: Forging Guiding

I dedicate one guide to forging equipment to show how important it is.

Clash of Kings Club has covered a very comprehensive intermediate guide on forging equipment guide so I will not repeat it here.

Let's start with the workshop.

  1. Almost towards the bottom right, pay close attention to the smelting button. You can change it to green and you should do it. We want to start off with green and synthesize them to at least purple. The white ones can be acquired through free gift, monster drops, equipment chests etc.
  2. On the bottom left, there is a queue. You should be able to activate 3 of them with ease. First being free, second 1 gold, third 10 gold, fourth 100 gold, subsequently 300 gold each. Without research speed up, it will take 8 hrs to clear one and a full 24 hrs to clear the queue. After first full speed up (-30%), it takes 6 hrs 18 min to clear one.

The workshop cannot be upgraded. In order to speed up the production of stones, research has to be done at the college with a caveat, research stones. Previously, research stone drops were very rare. CoK TW just recently implemented Novia's gift which provided quite a fair number of research stones. Use them primarily to speed up stones production.

I will post more later...

Clash of Kings (CoK) - The West: Hide Your Troops

I dedicate one post to hide your troops as this is key to survival.

*Updates

Free

1. Hide Your Troops By Exploring Ancient Ruins (Max: 8 hrs)

Ancient Ruins spawn and appear around the World Map. These ancient ruin castles are also where the “black knights” respawn during the Black Knight event. You can send out your troops to explore ruins and be protected during the duration. When the Castle Ruins spawn initially, they can last up to 24 hours and they disappear when the timer runs out. You can pick different exploration times to hide your troops.

The exploration times are Easy (15 Minutes), Normal (1 Hour), Difficult (4 hours), and Hell (8 Hours). You can only send 1 march worth of troops to the ancient ruins. Troops that are exploring the castle ruins cannot be attacked.

It should be noted that you can gather small amount of resources and lord EXP during your exploration. It appears that the higher your castle level and troops sent, the higher amount of RSS and EXP that you can obtain.

2. Protect Your Troops by Gathering at Alliance Super Mine

Alliance Super Mine is a special building that your alliance can build. These Super Mine grant you additional resource gathering bonus as well as valuable protection. Troops that are gathering at the Alliance Super Mine cannot be attacked and thus cannot be injured nor killed.

You can only send 1 march to an Alliance Super Mine. However, as you build out your Castle and improve your marching size, you will be able to send out more troops to the mines. Consider sending out Siege Engines as they have higher troop load, which can camp at the Super Mines for even longer periods of time.

3. Avoid Head On Battles with Long Marches

Troops that are marching towards a destination cannot be attacked or intercepted. This means by sending out troops to the longest path possible, you can potentially keep them safe from all the marching time. You can send out a march to attack a faraway abandoned castle and keep your troops safe for that entire duration. Below are some of the key points to obtain longer duration march.

a. Use Siege Engine as a Part of March
Siege engine is the slowest troop unit that can prolong your marching time. It should be noted that this strategy is best when combined with the lord skill Immediate Return to instantly recalling your troops back.

b. Go through center zones or dark ground area (throne)
Dark ground areas are the slowest area of the game. Troops take more than double the time to travel through the area.

c. Check out multiple targets for varying path
Certain terrains such as mountain and forest add to the marching time. Make sure you check out several targets to find the “sweet” path that take the longest.

d. Unequip equipment that improve marching speed
Finally, remember to remove your lord’s equipment that improve marching speed. You want your troops to march as slow as possible for protection and hidden from attack.

4. Initiate “Fake” Rally for Short Term Protection

Troops that are a part of rally cannot be attacked. You do need a Hall of War to be able to start a rally. Or you can shield your troops by joining another alliance’s member’s rally.

To start a rally in Clash of Kings, you first tap on the enemy’s castle, and tap on “Declare War”. The players from your alliance can add their troops toward the rally. During the rally preparation time, all the troops as a part of the rally are protected against attacks.

To join an alliance member’s rally, tap Alliance and Alliance Battles, and finally the plus sign.

The pro is that you can cancel the rally and have access to your troops right away, compared to a simple long march. The con of a fake rally in the game is that the longest rally preparation time is a mere 1 hour.

5. Utilizing Alliance Member’s Castle as Protection

When your alliance is under heavy attack against an incoming invader, sometimes sending your troops out to reinforce alliance member’s castle can be an awesome strategy. There are two situation where you can take advantage of such a situation.

Your alliance member should be either under a peace shield, or strong enough that they are very unlikely to be attacked.

6. Camping Troops at Distant Location Away from Battle

When it is not a Kill Enemy event or KE, most of the attackers invade your castles for resources. This means that they will typically not out to kill your troops and getting you. You can potentially hide your troops and save them from being attacked by tucking them away. However, this is risky as your enemy can still follow the path to know where your troops are.

Not Free

1. Activate Peace Shield

This is the most basic way to hide and prevent incoming attacks in Clash of Kings. It should be noted that your troops that are out on farming tiles can still be attacked. You can mainly get peace shield from various packs, from store or from alliance store. Peace shields are found under “buff” tab of Store. Generally speaking, the higher time duration peace shields is a better deal in terms of gold per amount of time.

*Pro-tip: You can still attack monsters. But if you scout or attack your enemy, your shield will break.

1 Hour Peace Shield
?

8 Hour Peace Shield
100k Alliance Honor or 500 Gold

24 Hour Peace Shield
1000 Gold

3 Day Peace Shield
2500 Gold

*2. Activate Resource Shield on Gold Mine

I discovered this when I was given free resource shields. This was pretty cool as I needed to protect my third marching troop contingent plus it lasted more than 8 hours. I recalled it was about 11+ hours and if you factor the marching about 2+ hours to-and-fro, it can last about close to 14 to 15 hours. (1) Explore ruins. (2) Alliance super mine. (3) Resource shield. Most of the time, I do not want to waste my Peace shield since my castle is empty and low resource anyway.

Clash of Kings (CoK) - The West Strategy

Well, I started playing Clash of Kings - The West (CoK TW) since there is not much development on Spartania.

LevelWinner has an excellent post on the basics so I will not be duplicating it here.

I will share with you my journey as I play along and learn the secrets of the game to be a successful gamer without or minimal spending in a game. I have experience playing Haypi Kingdom, Emross Wars and Avalon Wars. So this is a similar strategy game with new tricks to learn.

The first thing to know in this type of strategy games is to know how to hide your troops from being attacked even when you are strong enough. Why, you may ask? Losing resource is fine and part and parcel of the game. Losing troops on the other hand, is a double whammy. I cannot collect resources back to build back my troops and complete the quests, let alone help the alliance. Believe me, every strategy game I played would have given you one or a few loopholes to hide your troops since everybody needed to grow. Even when you are super strong, you can be taken down by rallied troops. Why fight a disadvantaged battle in which you cannot control when you can control and win? If one weak player or similar strength attacker marches towards you, you can instantly recall your troops within 3s and decimate him. If you detect a much stronger player or rallied force marching towards you, no point banging your head against the wall and die unnecessarily. Also, beware of the deadly advance teleport of either a super strong player or a few well coordinated allied players attack. Live to fight another day or better still, find a few allies and rally against him when he is opened.

Clash of Kings Club has an excellent post on hiding your troops but I will highlight the obvious and not so obvious but effective trick.

I will post more later.

Real Steel WRB Video - Atom (90) vs Gold Zeus (263)

1-trick pony but needs practise and a cool head to pull it off every time. Credits to Живая сталь.

  2. Up Heavy (UH) - heavy punch
  3. Special - when Zeus attack
  4. Right Heavy (RH) - jump attack when Zeus just recovers from your special then LL to retreat.
  5. Down Heavy (DH) - shoulder when Zeus is quite close, use LL to retreat after that.

Real Steel Strategy Guide

I'm pretty pissed off at the same old 5 cheats that everybody whom copied and put into their strategy guide. I doubt that they even experiment with them or do more than that. I walk the talk and I will be coming with my own strategy or guide myself as I play along.

  1. Gold Coins & Boss Pack - Buy it if you have the money. If not, watch videos till you have 990 gold coins or wait for the special offer which I saw once was at 500 gold coins. The videos are aplenty. *Update: Other places you can get 100 gold coins are earn 10M silver coins, reach level 30, own 20 robots, upgrade 20 robots fully and earn 2K gold coins (kind of stupid to get 100 if you got 2K). Also versus events also give you a chance to earn some gold coins.
  2. Unlimited Energy Core - If you are a grinder, buy it. It's a steal at SGD 11.99. If not, just grind with 5 energy cores alternating between Time-trial and Free Sparring Pro mode. I can hardly play and finish. *Update: DO NOT BUY the unlimited energy core until you got your 990 gold coins through free videos. Buying it will raise your VIP level 3 to no ads and no more free videos after that. Anyway, for me what's done could not be undone. I bought the additional double reward for SGD 22.99 to grind.
  3. Upgrades - I upgrade Power and Special. You may not always have the chance to unleash your special or you may miss it. You will also need power to grind the time-based attacks. You will need damage to win the final bosses.
  4. Robots - If you do not want to wait until 990 gold coins and want to earn as you go, I suggest you buy the robots that the special is unable to be blocked. Atom, Hollow Jack, Twin Cities and Zeus are the ones. Total 1250 gold coins. The boss pack already included Twin Cities and Zeus. You can also invite a Facebook friend and if he installs it and pass you a free Robot pass, you can get Aqua Robot as you first free robot and a free robot at every major stage. *Update: I sent a Facebook invite to a friend and he installed it via the link. He linked his game to Facebook. Till date, I have not received my free robot pass in my in-game message inbox. I wrote to support but there is no reply. I gave up. **Update: I have finally received the free Bluebot after the support manually gave it to me. The next stage free AquaBot needs 2 Facebook invites, sigh...
  5. Blocks and Combos - I blocked while I stood still, not so effective. I have accidently pressed forward and blocked before (hints also stated that). Also, I have a 2% combo, I noticed I need to do different directional punches e.g. LP, RLP, ULP, HP. Perhaps practice it with the easiest time-based mode or local  LAN multiplayer mode. *Update: The game hints mentioned every robot has a unique heavy attack and that is true. Experment and usually there will be one that is the farthest and fastest. E.g. Asura & Midas-Gold is RH. Just be careful to retreat with double-tap L or RB (Right-Block) if you are too close or chain it with your own special. If you are good, even an Atom (90) can beat a Gold Zeus (263) with the 1-trick pony.
  6. Versus - After the initial Quick Match-up and you win, send a taunt (it's free anyway). Players will tend to revenge you and you will be able to see the stats of the player's robot from the Match Log and choose a matching or overwhelming robot you own to revenge him to get win streaks. Doing an unknown find player can often lead you to an overwhelming robot esp. if your win streaks are high. If you reject, your next find will be 1 gold, 2 gold not sure how many after that... likely to the power of 2.
I felt the game is not too difficult but a bit grindy even for those Pay-2-Win (P2W). Unless, you keep on dumping money to buy gold, you still need to grind for the upgrades after you bought the premium robots. Those that have patience can raise the robots to 4-stars. Kind of imagine the Gold 4-stars robots have out-of-this-world stats perhaps...

Stay tuned as I update you when I finish the game, owned and fully upgraded all the boss robots.

Now, I am at Gold Midas and almost fully upgraded. 2 more to go - Zeus and Trigore which have overwhelming statistics needs full upgrade.

**Update: I have beaten Trigore. I could not even wait for the full upgrade of power and special (1 short of and hp 2 short of) when I tried to clear Trigore. Gold Midas special long range RH definitely helped here. Now, it's routine upgrade of the rest of the owned robots while I grind for the gold coins. 2 options - go for Trigore or the boss robots. I still remain my gut feel of getting boss bots being the better choice. Leave me a comment otherwise.
